Glad to hear that KCC made it "easy" for you Burt. I am also glad you posted that image from NOAA - it was one of my favorite discoveries (via @judico) as the events were unfolding.

Hi Burt,

Mahalo for the post regarding yesterday's excitement. I had a post about the tsunami from my perspective working at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center: <a href="http://www.astronautforhire.com/2010/02/social-tsunami.html"http://www.astronautforhire.com/2010/02/social-tsunami.html</a>

Well, leave it to a bunch of state workers to screw everything up and then get paid overtime in their attempt to fix the mess they started. To avoid defaulting to the HMA, I filed my EUTF paperwork early. Had my dependants approved and received confirmation. Low and behold, the EUTF office cancelled my wife from my HMSA. It appears to be an error, because everything was filled correctly and on time. The problem is, they are not answering their phones. I've been trying to fix this since February 2nd and have yet to get someone on the phone. They will not see you at their office. I'm fed up!!!

Rox, I would have liked to stay over night but judging from the cutaway we pretty much visited most of the ship. Oh, and I failed to mention that there were only 6 bathrooms and very small crew quarters. Good think Nathan and I were there to protect the crew from Melissa.

OK so it was smaller than I imagined and still it holds 30 torpedos?? Are you sad or glad there was no overnight? I imagine the bunks were teeny tiny! Sorry I missed going with you guys. Glad that Melissa was there - she can easily hold the ground for the two of us cougars!

Very cool! I'm glad we have people willing to sit for 6 months in these things, but I could never do it!

I heard that if you stay too long on a sub, you lose the ability to sleep normally, because you never see the sun for so long.

That's pretty cool I guess, but I wonder how long before there are enough cars to warrant more stations? Seems like the island is small enough that people can drive around quite a bit without charging.

And the thing is, electric cars still produce carbon, the electricity has to come from somewhere... If everyone was driving an electric car, we would just have to produce more electricity, which isn't any greener, because we're still using fossil fuels to make it.

I'm so happy to see this. My mom owns a Prius, and she's been waiting with baited breath for "the next step." I think Louisiana might take a lot longer to adopt charge stations, but somebody's got to take the first step. Congrats, HI!
